What is the difference between Muay Buran, Burmese boxing or Muay Thai?

These three methods, which originated in the Thai-Burmese region (now called Myanmar), are all deadly and very effective fighting methods.

The main difference with Burmese boxing (also called “Lethwei) – in the Letwei fighting method, it is allowed to headbutt the opponent and boxing is practiced mostly with bare hands (no gloves).

Muay Buran is the origin of Muay Thai (Thai boxing) and includes techniques that are not are taught in Thai boxing, such as throws and grappling.

Thai boxing or “Muay Thai” evolved from Muay Buran and today is an effective combat sport and an excellent tool for self-defense and combat.

Muay Buran, on the other hand, was not intended for the ring and was intended to provide a broad self-defense and combat solution, and remains so today in many places where “Muay Buran” is taught.

Muay Buran is considered more violent than Thai boxing, and there are not as many teachers teaching this method outside the Thailand region.
