Dennis Hanover (born 1937) grew up in South Africa, and in his words:
“South Africa was close to the Nazis politically and conceptually, and there was strong anti-Semitism. I grew up with that all around me and chose to survive. I “ate grass” and survived. Fights were a matter of routine, and I learned that the last one standing was the winner.”

Dennis Hanover studied judo, street fighting, jiu-jitsu and karate and often put his skills to the test in street fights and competitions.
In 1960, he immigrated to Israel with his wife, and he worked hard to teach effective self-defense throughout The Land.

Today, the Dennis Survival Jujitsu method has many clubs throughout the country, and competitions and fights are also held for students of the method.

As in Karate and Sports Judo, also in Dennis Survival, it is customary to hold competitions and fighting events with partial or full contact (with protection) for students of this self defense method – ranging from children groups to adults.
Competitions and sparring are a very effective tool for trainees in any martial art system to test their abilities under certain pressure and in safe conditions.
Currently leading the Dennis Survival Method is Dennis Hanover’s son: Guy Hanover.
